Who we are
A community-based organization standing with vulnerable children and youth.
Since 1992, Child Rescue Kenya has walked alongside children and young people facing life on the streets, abuse, or extreme poverty.
Since 1992, Child Rescue Kenya (formerly International Child Care Trust Kenya, then Njia Panda Ya Tumaini) has walked alongside children and young people facing life on the streets, abuse, or extreme poverty. Our work focuses on restoring safety, reconnecting children with their families where possible, and building long-term pathways to independence.
We believe that every child deserves a safe home, access to education, and the chance to reach their full potential. Our teams combine social work, counseling, education support, and vocational training to create lasting change—not just short-term relief.
Our mission
To rescue, rehabilitate, and reintegrate vulnerable children and youth into safe, supportive families and communities.
Our vision
A Kenya where no child is forced to live on the streets and every young person can grow up in dignity, safety, and hope.
Our approach
Community-based, family-focused support that prioritises prevention, long-term relationships, and local leadership.

How we work with children and families
Our work begins on the streets and in communities, where our social workers build trust with children and families. Wherever possible, we prioritise safe family reintegration, working closely with caregivers to understand the reasons a child left home and to address underlying challenges.
When children cannot immediately return home, we provide temporary care, counselling, and education support while we explore long-term options. Throughout, we involve children and families in decisions, and we stay present with follow-up visits, school monitoring, and practical support.
Prevention
Strengthening families and communities so children are less likely to end up on the streets.
Rescue & rehabilitation
Responding when a child is in crisis, providing safety, care, and trauma-informed counselling.
Reintegration & follow-up
Supporting children to return to safe families or alternative care and walking with them over time.
Where we work
Our work is rooted in Kitale, Trans-Nzoia County, with a focus on street-connected children, vulnerable families, and out-of-school youth. We collaborate with local authorities, schools, community leaders, and partner organisations. Because our programmes are community-based, we are able to respond quickly when needs emerge and to adapt as contexts change.
Safeguarding at the heart
Safeguarding is central to everything we do. Our staff and volunteers are trained in child protection, and we follow clear policies and procedures designed to keep children safe from harm, abuse, and exploitation.
We listen carefully to children's voices, take concerns seriously, and work in line with national guidelines and best practice. We also support parents and caregivers to understand their own safeguarding responsibilities.
Our values
- Dignity:We see the potential and worth of every child and young person.
- Family:We believe children belong in safe, loving families wherever possible.
- Integrity:We are accountable to the children we serve, our communities, and our partners.
- Participation:We involve children, youth, and families in shaping decisions that affect their lives.
- Hope:We hold onto the belief that change is possible, even in difficult circumstances.
